I woke up around 1:00 am on Thursday with severe pain in my stomach - as in the actual area of my stomach - not just in my belly area. I toughed it out until
about 7:30 hoping for it to get better, and then I went to the ER. They spent a whole lot of time and my money looking at my gallbladder and pancreas. Then,
when they'd done all the tests they could.... the doctor (God bless him, much better than most RMH ER Docs) was reluctant to send me home. He even said he
could tell from my chart that I'm not the kind of person who turns up in the ER because I'm bored. He was trying to decide what to do next and
accidently pressed the general area of my appendix - and I gasped! So, he ordered a full abdominal CT. Iran will be happy to know that besides putting
contrast dye in my IV, they also put it and a balloon up my butt. All the while we're doing this the pain in the area of my appendix is getting steadily
worse. Then, the doctor came in and confirmed what we were beginning to strongly suspect - my appendix needed to come out. By the time they got me to surgery
two hours later the pain in my appendix was so bad that not even the demerol they were giving me was touching the pain.
I only had to spend that one night in the hospital - good because who doesn't want to be home in their own bed. Bad because they wouldn't let me take any of that wonderful morphine home with me. They gave me percocet to take home with me which only makes me dopey, but doesn't really help the pain. They actually had me up walking around late Thursday night.
