I'm off to the northwest for about ten days via Amtrak. I hope this place is still here when we get back.

Ten days left. I'm going to Nottingham in the East Midlands. It's not exactly nonstop excitement there, but I'm sure to enjoy myself.

It's too expensive. I want to go to Scotland, the north of England, and Wales.
When I went to London in 1996 we stayed in a studio in Chelsea and there were always rowdy drunk kids in the streets at night. In Chelsea. My favorite part was going to the old Admiralty buildings in Greenwich (where the G. Observatory and the Prime Meridian is) and getting lost in Camden Town looking for the Karl Marx Museum, which I found but didn't realize it. Also went to the Tower.... walked across Tower Bridge.... some pedestrian tunnel under the Thames.... saw some cheesy overrated horror museum that had animatronic re-enactments of Anne Boelyn's beheading, etc. It would be better just to walk the countryside and save yourself the expense. |

We'll take some side trips.... definitely going to Newstead Abbey (Lord Byron's estate), Sherwood Forest, perhaps Derby and Birmingham, maybe
Manchester. I should have bought a one-way ticket and planned to stay a month instead of just nine days.

Scotland, at least Inverness, is great. That was my first overseas trip and I loved it. Someday I'm going back.
We'll be leaving for our trip to France soon. My husband's brother is getting married, thus the true reason for going. We'll be there for a couple weeks and have some side trips planned. Strasbourg. Ancey and also Geneva, Switzerland. I've never been to Stasbourg, France so I'm excited about that. You can tell from the name that its heavily influenced by Germany. I've been to Ancey, France and Geneva before. Ancey is this quiant little town with a nice collection of Renaissance and Middle Ages buildings, built along these lovely canals. (They call Ancey the Venice of France, I think). Nothing very exciting about Geneva, except they sell coo coo clocks there. What's cool is that we have an apartment to stay in instead of a hotel. Some friends of my husband's brother are letting us use it while they are gone. Apparently they only use this apartment in the winter. In the summer they live in their other house, in the Alps. Wow.

After I win the lottery, my first expenditure is going to be five grand for Melissa to fly first class and have a great time in London.

I might not be going to see AC/DC. My dad has an aortic aneurism and will be having surgery very soon. My presence is likely to be required in Florida in the
very near future.
